Get to know Ferrara (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Ferrara.

Despite being beautiful, Ferrara isn't often the most known tourist city in Northern Italy. It's a typical Emilia Romagna's city, with very picturesque cobblestone streets and a medieval structure that is still standing like the old days. In fact, the city hasn't expanded a lot outside the city walls, hence why it is mainly contained in the original medieval walls. Ferrara isn't very big and it can be seen in a day, but if you really want to experience it fully, it'll be best to stop at least for two to three days.

All the main attractions are at walkable distance or as an another option bikes can be rented. Most of the locals (including elderly people) use bicycles as main way of transportation. There are many churches to see, with the Duomo being the most dominant of all; it is a very beautiful architectonic building with its Gothic white facade and is definitely a must-see together with the stunning Estense Castle that's not too far.

Ferrara is a quiet city, ideal for family trips with children but also for young people; in fact, there are many things to do at night. During the summer/autumn seasons there are plenty of events and festivals held in Ferrara; the young crowd hangs out in some squares or some bars enjoying the "aperitivo" Italian style.

There are many accommodations available, mainly hotels and bed and breakfasts with medium to high prices. For the budget travelers, there are also Ferrara hostel options; less-expensive dorms with breakfast are included in the price, as well as free internet access and dining room and kitchen facilities. Your Ferrara hostel isn't too far from the train or bus station; keep in mind that in Ferrara, nothing is really far away.
