Apart from exploring the desert, there is also a wetland relatively close, as is a salt lake where salt mining is still practiced. On the way to the salt lake, you can have a stop at a hot spring too. There is no public transport to these points, but you can book a tour, hire a taxi, or hitch a ride to get there.

Even more so than for the rest of Iran, spring and autumn are the best times of the year to visit Varzeneh. In winter, the temperature drops to zero degrees Celsius, while the summers are extremely hot. Remember that you are a visiting a desert.
