Popularly known as "the town that gave its name to those famous horse-riding pants," Jodhpur has quite a lot going on. The biggest attraction here is the Mehrangarh Fort, a most stunning fortification set in among the desert. It is quite busy and with the heat, it is recommended to go early in the morning. Once you have finished here, you can head a short way down the road to the Jaswant Thada, a mausoleum and marble palace built in honor of Jaswant Singh, an Indian politician. In the afternoon, you can also knock off the Usain Brawan Palace and Museum, which gives some interesting history into the royal family of the area and a feel for how they live -- considering many still live in other areas of the palace not opened up for tourism.
Jodhpur is also famous for its spice market. If you find your way to the Sardar Market and its famous clock tower, you will see market stalls in and around the area as well as the textiles and spice markets. Just a short walk away, you can also see why Jodhpur is known as "The Blue City" -- here are some houses that were painted blue by the Brahmins -- India's priestly caste -- that have some stunning architectural features.
Hostels in Jodhpur are mostly around the Sardar Market area. There's an abundance of lassitude stalls and cheap eats in the omelet shops here as well. They have fruits, vegetables, and just about any other kind of shop with supplies for things you might need around the area, just ask your friendly Jodhpur hostel staff!
