Get to know Stuttgart (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Stuttgart.

Stuttgart is situated in the southern part of Germany and is known as the cradle of the automobile. However, it's not as industrial as you might suspect; it is pleasantly surrounded by and full of rolling hills and green spaces.

If you are looking for a Stuttgart hostel, there are several options to choose from. It is most convenient to stay in one of the five inner boroughs which are named after their geographical location Mitte (Center), Nord (North), SΓΌd (South), Ost (East), and West (West).

Mitte includes most important sights and the main light rail station, Nord is the greenest part of the city with lots of parks and open space, SΓΌd is a mostly residential quarter with a funicular (inclined cable car), Ost features several Neoclassical villas and West is home to Solitude castle. You could also stay in Zuffenhausen, which is home to the magnificent new Porsche Museum.

Stuttgart airport is very close to the city center and can be accessed by S-train. Getting around from your Stuttgart hostel is easy because there is a comprehensive public transport system to get you where you want to go. Make sure to ride the funicular at least once to see a stunning view of the city.

While staying at a Stuttgart hostel, we recommend that you take a walk around the city center and shop, visit the Old Castle, and explore the Staatsgalerie which is famous for its extensive collection of European art. If you get a chance, see a performance of the famous Stuttgart ballet company at the opera house. If you are interested in cars, do not miss the opportunity to visit both the Mercedes-Benz Museum and the Porsche Museum. Don't forget to taste the famous local dish: SpΓ€tzle, with cheese.
