Santos, Brazil, is a coastal city founded in the sixteenth century in the state of Sao Paulo in Brazil. It is around sixty-five kilometres from the city centre of Sao Paulo, the economically most important city of the country. Santos is well known for its port -- the Port of Santos is the biggest sea port in Latin America, so trading and logistics are big economic factors for the local economy. Especially petroleum, coffee, and raw sugar are exported from the Port of Santos. The local football club FC Santos is internationally well known; its most famous player, Pelé, was one of the greatest football players in history and he played in Santos for two decades in the mid-twentieth century.

The climate in Santos is tropical. The daily maximum temperature ranges from twenty-two to twenty-nine degrees Celsius throughout the year. You get eight to thirteen days of rain every month; the coastal city does not have a real dry season.

The city offers numerous hotels and guesthouses. Most accommodations are located nearby the beachfront. You can choose from two- to four-star hotels. If you prefer hostels and the typical backpackers' style, you have some options, as well. There are some Santos, Brazil hostels in the city.
