 Mount Wellington

There are a number of Hobart hostels for you to choose from for your trip to Tasmania. Tasmania is known for its colorful, friendly personality and tends to be on the liberal side politically. The mainland often pokes fun at Tasmania, or “Tassie”, but there is no denying its beauty. To keep it pristine, no fruits, plants, or other types of agriculture product can be brought into the state, including from mainland Australia.

The best way to explore Tasmania is with a car but bus transport and tours are also available. You can inquire about tours at your Hobart hostel.

Hobart is the largest city in Tasmania and the second oldest city in Australia. It is towards the southern end of the island along the coast. The weather tends to be a bit cooler than the mainland and can change quickly from warm to cold to raining. The CBD is small but has most popular shops and department stores. However, because Hobart is so small, businesses tend to shut down around 5 PM.

Salamanca Place is the heart of the city and can easily be recognized by its cobblestone streets and historic brick architecture. Every Saturday, the famous Salamanca Market offers many unique gifts, tasty foods, and performances by local buskers. Tasmania is known for having the best fudge, cheese, and seafood in Australia. Many great samples can be found at the market with passionate locals more than willing to tell its history. Be sure to also make sometime to take a river cruise down to the Cadbury Chocolate Factory and/or a tour of the Cascade Brewery.

A variety of Hobart hostels are available to choose from and are mostly located within the city.
