Drippin' Dragon Hostel is an excellent and cheap option in the otherwise rather costly Georgetown. With a swimming pool and outdoors area, nonstop free tea and coffee and free breakfast, it is a convenient place from which you can easily discover all that Penang has to offer.
The Location
The hostel is located to the west of the old historic center, but it does not make much of a difference where you are staying within Georgetown, as everything is in walking distance anyway. If you have a lot of luggage to carry, you can also just opt for the free bus that will drop you almost at the door of the hostel. Here, you will definitely not have problems finding food to eat. If you walk for two minutes to the east, you will reach Jalan Penang, one of the main streets that abounds with restaurants, street-food options, and supermarkets. Moreover, if you have your own transportation, here you are at the gateway to the nature parks to the west of the island.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel is enormous and offers a variety of rooms. All of them are air conditioned, but they have a different number of beds inside. One even has twenty-four! As it is difficult to cater to the needs and wishes of so many people, guests do not have the option to adjust the temperature, which is a bit annoying when it gets freezing at night. If you know you tend to feel cold, make sure to ask for an extra blanket beforehand before the reception closes! There are plenty of bathrooms, but some of these are outside on a terrace, which might make you feel a bit weird using them.
Common Spaces
The best feature of the hostel is a huge swimming pool with built-in Jacuzzi. There is also an outdoor bar and chilling area with sun beds around it. Inside, there is a huge living room with a flat-screen TV and Netflix as well as a kitchen and dining area. Free breakfast is included in the rates, even if it is only bread and jam. However, you can serve yourself to tea and coffee round the clock.
Summary
Drippin' Dragon is great value for the money. The excellent location, the huge swimming pool, the cosy atmosphere, and spacious common spaces all make this an excellent choice for your time in Penang.

• Jetty -
• For ferries arriving from Langkawi and Butterworth, we are only a 15-minute walk away. If you want to take a taxi it will cost between RM 10-15.
• Airport -
• From the airport you can take a taxi, which will cost between RM 35-50 . You can also take bus #401E, which should cost RM 2.70 all the way to George Town.
• Main Bus Terminal (SUNGAI NIBONG) -
• You can take bus #401 or #303 for RM 2 to George Town or you can take a taxi for RM 35-45.
