Beach Park Hostel is a very mainstream, beachside hostel on the main beach of Koh Rong Sanloem that will appeal to a wide audience. The common area right on the beach is really nice, especially at night, but the dorms are quite basic for the price.
The Location
As you step off the ferry at Saracen Bay, Beach Park Hostel will be the first hostel you see. It's situated right on the beach, is quite popular, and has crowds staying even in low season. While most people just prefer to stay on the beach for swimming and sunbathing, there are a few hikes through the jungle you could undertake that lead you to some other beaches around the island, like Lazy Beach or Sunset Beach.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel has two kinds of rooms -- the authentic, local-style bungalows with eight beds and the brand new but extremely boring concrete buildings with twelve beds. They could not be more different from each other! While the former only has fans and a very basic bathroom in which the shower has no roof, the latter is cooled by air conditioning and has a more sophisticated bathroom (even if there is only one water temperature available). The bungalows have beds with mosquito nets and most beds don't have an electronic socket next to them while the twelve beds dorms have curtains on the beds. The biggest advantage of the twelve-bed dorm is that you cannot hear the loud music coming from the common area well into the night.
Common Spaces
The hostel is fairly spread out and has a variety of common spaces around it where guests can chill, including a huge number of hammocks and a swing in the sea. It also has a very attractive bar area right next to the sea, which gets really busy in the evenings. They sometimes put on fire shows here as well, which can be quite spectacular. However, it is a bit awkward sitting here without ordering anything, as the staff will keep coming up to you in every five minutes to ask if you are ready to order.
Summary
Beach Park Hostel is quite a big hostel on a small island, and as such you might feel like an individual touch is missing. A deposit is also collected for the key, but reception is only available from 9 o'clock, so getting it back might be tricky. Wi-F is often not available either. All in all, it is an ok place to stay, but if you are bothered by the loud party noise from the bar then it's definitely best if you ask for the twelve-bed dorm.
