This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Novosibirsk.

Novosibirsk is the third-largest city in Russia, with more than one and a half-million inhabitants. It is also called unofficially the capital of Siberia. The city was founded in the late nineteenth century when its population was less than a thousand people. It was meant to be an industrial center before the Revolution in the early twentieth century and this tendency continued during Communist times.

Today, the city is one of the major industrial centers in Russia and the largest in Siberia. It is also an education center with more than fifteen universities and institutes. That means that the city has many young people, and nightlife in Novosibirsk has much to offer. There are many clubs and pubs but restaurants can be quite expensive. Other interesting places to visit are the Novosibirsk State Art Museum, the Novosibirsk State Museum, the Novosibirsk Museum of Railway Equipment named after N. A. Akulinin, the Historical and Architectural Museum in the open air with unique monuments of wooden Siberian architecture and culture, two planetariums, the Novosibirsk Zoo, the Novosibirsk State Philharmonic, and the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre.

Do not forget that Novosibirsk is in Siberia and even in April, the average temperature is below zero. And in the winter, averages of minus twenty degrees Celsius are the norm but it can get as cold as minus forty-five degrees Celsius.

Novosibirsk hostels are a great example that high prices do not always mean better service. In fact, there are many Novosibirsk hostels, located in almost any region of the city, from which you can choose. However, some of the hostels in Novosibirsk are really bad and it is advisable that you avoid them at any cost. On the other hand, other Novosibirsk hostels offer very good conditions and the price between these two types vary only within a few dollars. If you visit the city, be careful when choosing your Novosibirsk hostel.
