Hostel Lodi Reviews

Hotel Lodi Hostel is a basic hostel outside the city center with clean accommodations and great staff. It is run more like a hotel with several dorm rooms. Note that its name on many maps and at the front door is "Hotel Lodi", but there are dorm rooms available.

The Location

It is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, not too far from several city attractions and close to bus lines and metro to reach the city center. Hotel Lodi is marked with a sign next to the door that is visible from the street. The neighborhood is fairly safe and there are several restaurants and a supermarket nearby. The train station (Termini) and bus station (Tiburtina) are a fifteen-minute bus ride (take line fifty or one hundred fifty) from the hostel. While the "Lodi" metro station is close to the hostel, this station will not take you in the direction of the city center or transportation stations. To use the metro to reach the city's attractions, the Garibaldi metro station is a twenty-minute walk from the hostel. To reach the city center, there are a couple of frequent bus routes that pass near the hostel.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Hotel Lodi mainly offers private room accommodations, but two four-bed dorm rooms are also available. The dorms are basic with metal bunk beds, small tables, and large storage lockers. Each bed has a small lamp. There are many outlets available in the room. The doors are generally unlocked and individual guests do not get keys to the room. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hostel, but can be slow or difficult to connect to from the second floor of the hostel. Rooms are cleaned well every day. The single private bathroom is located in the hallway outside of the room. Sometimes guests have to wait to use the bathroom or shower since there is only one per each four-bed dorm. Bathrooms are spacious and clean, and the shower operates well with hot water and strong water pressure.

Common Spaces

The main common area is a beautiful outdoor patio and garden with chairs and fruit trees. In the wintertime, this area is not often used. Near the reception, there is a common room with tables and chairs, a computer, and a book exchange. This is also a nice space to eat breakfast in the morning for a small charge. There is a kitchen, but it is not a typical communal hostel kitchen -- staff are strict about guests not cooking. The kitchen is mainly use by the hostel staff, but you can ask to store food there or use the microwave, plates and utensils, or the sink. This is not a particularly social hostel. Most guests are making a quick stop in Rome or looking for budget accommodation rather than a social experience.

Summary

Hotel Lodi offers comfortable dorms, some common space, and very helpful staff members available at all times. It is a good place to stay if you're on a budget and don't mind taking the bus or walking a bit to reach transportation hubs and the city center. The staff will offer their help with every part of your stay, including recommendations and advice.
