Woodbridge Hostel Muangkao is a quirky little place that is like sleeping in a wooden cabin. Meeting people will be difficult, as its only real purpose is for crashing for a night after seeing the historical park. Plus most people do this as a day trip from Phitsanulok. Nevertheless, it's very comfortable and the restaurant downstairs has great food. There are no hot showers, though.
The Location
If you're coming from Phitsanulok, you will be dropped off just after the east gate of the historical park. The hotel is located within the park's grounds. Head along the main road, keeping the lake on your right. Directly opposite BtyeTemple (which is on your left), you will find the hostel.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There's just one main dorm here, which resembles a creaky old log cabin. It has really a cosy feel to it. The podlike beds are extremely comfy and large and come with reading lights, plug sockets, and curtains. There's also air conditioning, which you can set as you wish. As it's an old wooden building next to a busy road, you may want to bring ear plugs, but this is the case for all hostels in this area. There are two toilet/shower cubicles (one for men and one for women). These are very clean, though unfortunately these don't have any hot water.
Common Spaces
The main common area is a very small restaurant, which serves guests as well as passers-by. There's various seating, but expect to spend the evening with people eating their dinner if you want to chill here. The food served by the owner is delicious and much cheaper than neighbouring restaurants. Aside from this, there are two armchairs just outside the dorm, but due to the heat, relaxing here is hard. This is also where you'll find the lockers, which are large enough for a big backpack. Wi-Fi is strong throughout the building, and as you may be the only guest, this is very fast.
Summary
This is a cosy little retreat, which is within walking distance from the temples. It's perfect for sunrise/sunset trips. You can also rent a bike here for a small price. It's likely you'll be the only guest here, especially in low season, so meeting people will be difficult; don't expect any kind of sociable atmosphere, as this really is just a comfortable place to crash in between exploring temples.
