Hostal Coronel Pedro Arraya is a large hostel located on one of the larger streets in the quiet and sleepy Tupiza. The town is very small and can easily be explored on foot; there are also motortaxis available for transport. It's a really quiet hostel; there are not a lot of guests staying and the staff are often hard to find.
The Location
Located on one of the larger streets, Ave Pedro Arraya, this hostal is conveniently situated close to the market, the bus station, and other local establishments. There are several parks nearby that are great for relaxing. Due to the town’s size, the location of the hostal is not really a concern, because everywhere is reachable by foot.
Rooms and Bathrooms
This is a family-run hostal and tour agency. There are a mixture of single, double, and triple rooms available, as well as one large, mixed-gender dormitory room with ten beds. The rooms are fairly small and basic, and especially for the ten-person, mixed dorm room, there are not a lot of power plugs if it is fully occupied.
There are bathrooms located throughout the building and they are very basic as well. They could use a good cleaning too. Since there are not a lot of people staying at this hostal, it's not an issue that there is a limited number of bathroom facilities available.
Common Spaces
For a large building, there is not a lot of common space available for guests to relax and enjoy. There are a couple couches in the front by reception, but that is also where their travel agency storefront is. On the main floor, there is a large courtyard, which would be comfortable and lovely to relax in, but there is only one uncomfortable-looking bench. On the top floor, where the mixed dorm room is, there is also a bench. But it is a very tight and narrow area, so only one or two people can sit there at one time.
There is a small kitchen with very basic facilities, which guests can use. While this hostal does not include breakfast, it does provide tea.
Summary
This family-run hostal is very basic and quiet. Not a lot of guests stay here, making the atmosphere of the hostal fairly lackluster. Staff are also not around very often, making it hard to inquire about local attractions or general questions.
