The Hostelz.com Review - Genuine, independent review you can trust.
Press Hostel is a modern and comfy hostel with sixties-themed decor inside. The hostel is located away from the city centre but is very accessible by nearby public transport.
The Location
Press Hostel is located on the north side of the city centre. It is tucked away from the main bars and restaurants, but has a large shopping centre (a ten-minute walk away) and a few shops located nearby. There is tram that stops very close to the hostel that heads directly to the central station. The tram takes just under twenty minutes to reach the central station/palace of culture. The main bars and Old Town are within thirty minutes by public transport. To walk on foot would take a bit longer due to the location.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There are a variety of dorm room sizes, from four to twelve bed dorms. The rooms themselves are quite spacious, as beds are put around the outside of the dorm. The dorms come equipped with lockers. You are given a key to the locker on arrival and do not need to use your own lock. The beds are quite comfy and the duvets also very comfortable. The beds do not make too much noise, but you will feel it move if someone is climbing into the top bunk. Some rooms also have tables and coat hangers inside. Most beds also get charging sockets on the walls.
The bathrooms are modern and fairly spacious and quite clean. The showers and toilets are in the same room but are separate and lockable. There is hot water available all day. The shower has a few hooks for clothes, but could do with more. Water also does get over the floor when showering, so you must be careful when exiting the shower due to excess water.
Common Spaces
Aside from the reception, where there is some information and a sofa where you can sit, there is a very spacious lounge and kitchen area. Here there is a fridge/freezer, toaster, microwave, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. There are plenty of comfortable areas in which to relax and it is decorated in a pleasant, modern, sixties style. There are also breakfast bar area, which has sockets for using laptops and charging phones. There is a plethora of reading material available and even board games to play. There are some dorm rooms that come off the lounge area. Attached to the lounge area is a small sundeck area with sunroof, which can be used for smoking or relaxing.
Summary
The overall vibe of the hostel is quite relaxed. Drinking alcohol inside is banned. There may be fewer traveler types in the hostel, but overall the hostel is modern, clean, and at a very affordable price for those on a budget. It is slightly out of the centre, but there are excellent public transport options to and from, so it is easy to get downtown.
