Hostel Nikolskiy, Yekaterinburg

Hostel Nikolskiy is a brand new hostel located close to the centre of Yekaterinburg that features clean and tidy rooms; it's ideal for those looking for a short and comfortable stay in the city.

The Location

The hostel is located within walking distance of many places to eat and the central park nearby. Coming from the train, you can take a trolleybus easily to the hostel, or a quick taxi. There are not many supermarkets immediately nearby, but this hostel is very easy to walk to important places. Whilst the city of Yekaterinburg is quite spread out, the hostel is in a very good location with good access to public transport. It is also not too difficult to find, although using an application will help you find the entrance.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Rooms are extremely clean and spotless. Guests must remove their shoes on entry to the hostel or wear plastic covers (which are provided). The bedrooms have good solid beds with stairs rather than ladders to get up to the top level of bunks. The mattress and pillow were also extremely comfortable. The only thing that could improve the situation would be curtains for privacy.

The bathrooms are also mixed-sex, but you get your own small area to change and shower. The shower features two types of showerheads, with both a large "rainforest" style of shower and a smaller regular showerhead. Hair dryers are also available in the bathrooms. The bathrooms are clean and comfortable and the toilets are separate and also well cleaned. There are also free lockers that can be used in the rooms on request, and a towel is included in your stay.

Common Spaces

In a second room, there is a large kitchen and dining area. Here you will find a computer you can use, and plenty of sofas and spaces to relax. The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge and other cooking utensils. However, the large space can make it feel a bit unfriendly at times and it's not often used. Furthermore, down the corridor, there is a smaller kitchen area with some small sofas and microwave facilities and a fridge that can be used.

Summary

The hostel is a large quiet and clean place that is great for a short stay. Its central location means it remains great value for money. Whilst the receptionist does not speak much English, it is fairly easy to communicate if you know some basic Russian.
