This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Sukhothai.

Sukhothai, Thailand, is a central, slightly northern province of Thailand, whose name can be translated to "Dawn of Happiness." Its geographical location is in the magnificent valley of its main water source, the Yom River. The province also plays host to the Khao Luang Mountain Range, which is located within the vast and extraordinary confines of Ramkhamhaeng National Park. The main forms of transportation that are commonly used in Sukothai are songthaews (local buses), tuk tuks, motorbike rentals, and bicycles.

When looking for a hostel in Sukhothai, Thailand, you should have no problem finding bed(s), even if you haven't necessarily done your due diligence and booked in advance. They not only have a number of Sukhothai, Thailand hostels, but many of the guest houses in Sukothai should be classified as Sukhothai, Thailand hostels as well. Regardless of where you plan on staying, you shouldn't have much of an issue with security. The social scene in Sukothai is relatively upbeat, with a number of choices for going out or even just having a couple casuals at your temporary residence. The locals in the area are also especially friendly (as in much of Thailand) and if you can learn a bit of Thai in advance, you should be in for an incredible time.

As far as tourist activities go, Sukothai has a wide variety, depending on your interests and type of transportation. Old Sukothai is certainly worth a visit, as it is still the site of the historic ruins that once stood during the period of the Sukothai Kingdom from the fourteenth to the sixteenth centuries. Additionally, Sukothai has a very nice, relaxed fresh market where you can experience all sorts of delicious local foods including the very famous "Sukothai noodles." Boon Lott's Elephant Sanctuary is another fantastic destination to visit, especially for westerners who have never experienced the divine feeling of being in the presence of an elephant.
