Get to know Jerantut (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Jerantut.

Jerantut is a small town in Malaysia's interior, and although the town itself doesn't have much to offer and see, this is one of the best towns to stop on your way to explore Taman Negara National Park. This national park is the most famous one in on the Malaysian Peninsula and if you have the time, a visit is mandatory. The best way to go from Jerantut to Taman Negara National Park is to take a local bus to the Tembeline Jetty and from there arrive in Kuala Tahan –- just in the border of the Park. There are also direct buses to Kuala Tahan, but you won't enjoy it as much -– the trips take around two hours. Once you arrive in the national park you will find some of the most impressive jungle scenarios you will ever see. If you want to see elephants, you will probably need more than two days' trekking, but you can get some help and all the information you need for your planning from Jerantut's hostels.

You can arrive in Jerantut by train or bus, but the best is the jungle rail! This way, you will see yourself in a really slow train –- you can count on more than two hours' delay time –- but with astonishing landscapes in valleys between sandstone hills or in places where the railway line seems to have been eaten by the jungle. Along the way, you will meet the rural life of this area and people from the small villages are most likely to be your only companion in the journey, along with a few travelers.

There aren't many hostels in Jerantut, but they are usually not crowded, as most travelers only stay one night. Usually Jerantut hostels have free pickup from the train station, so try to arrange it in advance with the hostel.
