Get to know Kilrush (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Kilrush.

Kilrush looks like an ordinary local Irish town, but there is more to it than meets the eye. It's a quite charming place that the locals call home and in which visitors feel at home. Everything in town is within walking distance. There is a bus station in town, and the closest train station is in Ennis (buses run from Ennis to Kilrush however).

Kilrush is easily reached by car if you are coming from Limerick, Ennis, or Galway. If you're coming up from Tralee, take the ferry over the River Shannon to cut off a good amount of driving time and enjoy the view from the boat. A short drive up the coast leads you to the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren -- enjoy the views. There is plenty of parking in town.

There are a few pubs, which often play traditional live music at night. Kilrush is a market town, with many shops that sell local wares. Its location next to the ocean and the Shannon River means that it is also a harbor town, and in the evening it is quite lovely to take a stroll down to the marina. Take a day trip to watch dolphins or golf -- these are two activities popular in the area.

In general, Kilrush is a very clean and tidy town, and the people there are friendly and welcoming. It is a great place to spend a night (or two) and you won't need to make reservations at Kilrush hostels usually, since it tends to stay fairly quiet and not busy.
