Capurganá seats neatly between Colombia and Panama, along the coast of the Gulf of Urabá, and plays host to the many travellers that pass through here on a San Blas island adventure. The town is small and easily navigable, and it has many sleeping choices, including budget Capurganá hostels and mid-range hotels.

Capurganá is completely disconnected from the rest of Colombia and can only be reached by boat or plane. It offers visitors the chance to relax and enjoy the sleepy fishing village lifestyle or the opportunity to explore some of her natural attractions.

Nearby, visitors can enjoy La Caleta, a small beach with crystal clear water, or try their hand at snorkelling on the coral reef. Scuba diving is also very popular in the area, with several operators offering tours. If you are interested in diving, it is best to come in the winter (April to November), as the conditions are best at this time of year.

The surrounding area outside of Capurganá is mostly rainforests, which is perfect for travellers who like hiking, and the hour-long hike to El Cielo comes highly recommended.

If you have a few days to kill and you have had enough of hammock swinging at your Capurganá hostel, you can also visit the nearby port villages of Sapzurro, La Miel, El Aguacate, and Playa Soledad. Each of these can be reached by boat from the main pier.

At night time, travellers can visit one of the many restaurants and bars along the shorefront. There is a disco in town, also, if you are interested in salsa dancing.

Many of Capurganá’s hostels can be found around the waterfront or down the main street leading off from the right of the pier. Many of these buildings are old and without a strong internet connection. There is also no ATM, so it is important to bring sufficient Colombian pesos or American Dollars with you.

Capurganá is a beautiful town and it is worth spending a day or two here either relaxing or exploring. Enjoy!
