You should definitely consider Kaminu

Everyone had told us to stay in Miraflores while in Lima, and we'd heard that Lima was potentially a bit unsafe (which, after we got there, did not really seem to be the case). Kaminu is not in Miraflores, it's in Barranco -- a neighbourhood next to Miraflores, and we loved it. The little neighbourhood around the hostel is great. If you turn right out of Kaminu, there's a bunch of little restaurants that look out over the sea. You can get great ceviche, lomo saldatdo, pisco sours, all fantastic. if you turn left and go up the stairs, you've got a Starbucks, and you'll see a restaurant called Rustico. They do a lunch buffet for about $10, and it's a great way to get an introduction to Peruvian cuisine because you can try everything. It's a really nice restaurant. One thing, though, it's pretty tricky to find by taxi because you can't actually access it from the road. You cannot actually see the guesthouse from the taxi, you must get out and walk about 1/3 of a block down a pedestrian street to access it. If your driver is like ours, he'll get you right up to the pedestrian bridge and then get really confused about why he can't find the address. Just get out at the pedestrian bridge and walk under it (downhill), and the hostel will be on your right. Kaminu itself was pretty cool. The staff were really helpful. They arranged our bus tickets to Cusco and even had them delivered to the hostel for us, and they arranged our taxi back to the airport on the way home. There's a lot of good info for travelers at the hostel, and they have a little bar situation on the rooftop with cheap drinks, and weird infused pisco concoctions including, notably, coca leaves and garlic. By no means should you drink these, but you should probably try them. The rooftop bar is also a really good place to meet other travelers and get advice about where and how to go in Peru. The only downside is that we had a private room that faced the street (the one by the front desk), and it was REALLY noisy at night. People were walking by outside in big, drunk groups and carrying on at all hours of the night. Also, we could hear people coming into the hostel, either clamoring in drunk, or standing at chatting with the person at the desk very clearly. This probably wouldn't have been an issue had we been in a different room, though; so if you do go for a private room at Kaminu, ask for one at the back. Otherwise, great place.

The best hostel in Barranco

We arrived at 2:30 a.m. and the owner, Piero (a great person) went for us to the airport. We spent six days in Lima and we just love it. Great location, very clean, and friendly staff. We were very comfortable over there.

A perfect place to stay in the big city

Kaminu is a place were you feel warmly welcomed. Especially in this city, it's very important to have a nice place to come home after visiting the interesting sites. Kaminu is such a place. Piero and Paco are very concerned of helping all the "lost tourists" in this foreign country. They pick you up, they give you information and they mix the best pisco sour in town. interesting conversation about Peru, collective cooking in the modern kitchen, and partying at the huge terrace made my stay unforgettable.
