Amphitheatre Backpckers is situated in the Northern Drakensberg mountains in Natal South Africa. We are found on a section of Royal Natal National Park's nature Reserve, on the very edge of the boundary between Lesotho and South Africa.
The hostel is comprised of a cluster of stone and wooden huts nestled on the edge of the most panoramic view of the Drakensberg in South Africa. Vultures wheel above and the gorges team with wildlife. There is an enormous Dam behind the hostel where swimming and watersports is available, nature hikes begin from the door. We offer mountain biking, horse trails, rapp jumping, abseiling, a climbing wall, rock climbing and fly fishing.
The two most popular day tours on offer are the Amphitheatre TOP hike (to the highest waterfall in Africa...3000m up) and the day trip over the side of the Amphitheatre to Lesotho. Here you can visit a community that have changed little since they first appeared there hundreds of years ago. We have set up a fund towards a local school which some of your money goes towards when you travel on our trip.
