The Location
The hostel is located down an alley off a busy street in the tourist part of the city. Its location means that it is very close to restaurants, cafes, bars, travel agents, and many other amenities in Huế. However, because it is down a quiet alley, there is very little traffic or other noise to prevent guests from sleeping.
Huế Railway Station is about ten minutes' drive from the hostel. The small local airport is about half an hour's drive, and the citadel, which is the main tourist site in Huế, is about half an hour's walk away.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel has a mixture of private rooms and dorms; the dorms have four or six beds, and there are some women-only dorms. The rooms are cleaned once each day. Each room has a fan and air-conditioning. In the dorms, each guest's bed has a reading light, a power point, and curtains for privacy. Each guest is allocated a locker big enough for most small bags (though not large backpacks).
Bathrooms are en suite and contain the usual shower, toilet, and sink. There is hot water in each room, provided by an electric heater, which guests must ensure is turned on before use.
Common Spaces
There is no place in this hostel deliberately set aside for guests to hang out and meet other guests. Each floor has a very small balcony at the end of the corridor, though no furniture is provided. It seems that they are for smokers rather than for other guests to hang out on and chat. Downstairs, by reception, there is a small communal area with tables and chairs. Behind reception is the breakfast area, with tables and chairs. A free breakfast is provided for each guest until 9 a.m.; guests may choose from a long menu of options of standard size and quality. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. The reception will arrange bus and train tickets and various tours, though they are not pushy with them.
Summary
Overall, this hostel is well located and maintained, comfortable, and clean. However, it falls down badly on atmosphere. The lack of communal areas means that it is difficult to meet anyone besides those in the same dorm.
