How is Ahoy! NewTown rated?

Ahoy! NewTown Reviews

Ahoy! NewTown provides a good accommodation option in Prague, with comfy beds and lots of activity ideas. While it's not the most social hostel around, the staff will go above and beyond to ensure your needs are met.

The Location

As indicated by the hostel's name, it is located in what's considered Prague's "New Town." Even so, it is only a fifteen-minute walk to the main plaza in the center of the Old Town. A similarly short walk from the hostel could find you at bustling Charles Bridge, or, conveniently, at Prague's main train station. The airport is about an hour away by public transport or twenty-ish minutes in a cab.

Near the hostel, guests will encounter all manner of shops, mini-marts, restaurants, cafes, and even a decent-sized park. The closest real supermarket would be Albert, a quick, five-minute jaunt away. You may even stumble upon some fantastical street art, such as Michal Trpák's "Slight Uncertainty" installation, also found only a few minutes away by foot.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Ahoy! NewTown doesn't skimp on the rooms. Featuring multiple floors crammed with dorms and private rooms, it shouldn't be too difficult to find a place to sleep. Guests can take the stairs or the handy lift if your room is too high to reach by foot.

The dorm rooms themselves don't feel claustrophobic, but aren't the most spacious around either. At least the beds and their big, warm blankets are super comfortable. Each bed is fitted with a nearby power outlet, and metal cages stowed under the bottom bunks act as lockers for your bags and valuables (just bring your own lock). A coat-hanger and small shelving unit round out the room.

There's no shortage of bathrooms at the hostel either. Each floor offers multiple bathrooms and private shower rooms, so you shouldn't have to worry about waiting any time nature calls. The bathrooms are well-kept and the water is hot, with good pressure.

Guests should note that all lights in common areas, including the bathrooms, are automatic.

Common Spaces

Ahoy! NewTown's main common area is essentially a public café. With its comfortable seating, it's a fine place to hang out but generally remains quiet. Guests don't seem to linger here much, instead preferring to explore the city. Guests can find a basic continental breakfast here in the morning for a reasonable fee, and basic shared dinners are offered on most nights of the week (check with staff for dates and menus). Otherwise, the café bar is a great place to order a coffee or beer, and conveniently doubles as the hostel's reception.

Beyond the main café area, guests will encounter a small corner lounge, featuring two pleather sofas, a good-sized coffee table, magazines, board games, and a half-decent acoustic guitar. The following door leads to the hostel's kitchen. All the basics are here, including a large dining table, fridge, stove, sink, pots and pans, cutlery, and basic spices.

The common areas are generally kept neat and tidy. Wi-Fi is good quality throughout the hostel.

Summary

For the price, Ahoy! NewTown offers a good stay in Prague. While the accommodation itself is comfortable enough, what makes it stand out is the attentive staff who will help make your stay an excellent one.
