Top Hostel Pokoje Gościnne may actually be the top hostel in lovely Zakopane, Poland. It's got comfy dorm rooms, friendly staff, and a free breakfast; for the price, it’s hard to imagine a better budget accommodation.
The Location
The hostel is situated in the heart of downtown Zakopane; guests will find a variety of shops, cafes, and restaurants at their doorstep. From downtown most attractions including hiking, skiing, and snowboarding are only a short bus ride away.
The hostel is a bit inconspicuous and easy to miss. It’s found next to McDonald’s and across from Fashion Street 29. Enter the building’s main double doors and then take another doorway with stairs leading up to the hostel’s reception. You’ll find Top Hostel a short, ten-minute walk from the city’s main bus station.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel contains many multi-bed private rooms as well as two dorms featuring four and six beds, respectively. In fact, to reach the four-bed dorm you’ll have to pass through the six-bed dorm and an additional door.
The dorm beds are comfortable, complete with a sheet, comforter, and pillow. Colourful curtains add a special touch of privacy to each bed. You’ll also find a lamp and power strip with two ports per bunk. The room is finished with a small table and chair, and large lockers for bag storage.
Within the six-bed dorm is the main bathroom and only shower available for dorm guests. A second toilet is located just outside the entrance to the dorm rooms. The bathrooms are kept clean and the shower is hot with good pressure. However, the hand-held shower head does not fit in the fixture and therefore must be held in one’s hand at all times.
Each bathroom has a sink and soap. Towels are an additional small fee. The main bathroom also has a clothesline for hanging laundry.
Common Spaces
Zakopane’s Top Hostel Pokoje Gościnne offers one general common area, which acts as a kitchen, dining room, and small lounge. The kitchen area features a fridge, small stove, toaster, microwave, electric kettle, and dishes; it's more than enough for guests to cook a small meal.
In fact, the hostel offers a complimentary breakfast of oatmeal, granola, cereal, bread, milk, and as many types of jam you could want.
Though the common room isn’t big, it is sufficient for cooking and some light socializing after a long day in the Tatra Mountains. The addition of a small balcony is a welcome touch.
