Bend is located in part of the Cascade Mountains and Cascade Lakes, and the city itself is best known for its natural beauty and activities. While staying in a Bend hostel, make sure you take advantage of all the city has to offer. Bend is home to Mount Bachelor, an excellent place for skiing and snowboarding. If you prefer hiking, try Pilot Butte, which is actually an extinct volcano (the United States only has three extinct volcanoes within city limits, and Pilot Butte is one of them). Rafting down Sun River is a surefire way to see the natural landscape that Bend offers. Bend also offers many locations that are ideal for biking and camping, such as Newberry National Volcanic Monument. For more relaxed activities, you can visit the Tower Theater, the High Desert Museum, or Deschutes Brewery.
While it is the largest city in Central Oregon, there are just now starting to be hostels in Bend.
