Get to know Seville (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Seville.

Guess what? Seville is also named and spelled Sevilla - It is the same destination. Goodbye confusion.

The first settlement in Seville was founded by the native civilization of Tartessos and it was a fortress that was later destroyed. The Romans made a base here in the second or third century BC. Before it became part of Spain, Seville was conquered by the Muslims, it was an independent kingdom and for a short time, it was even invaded and conquered by the Vikings. Seville has grown as one of the major cities in Spain; it is the capital of the province and the autonomous community of Andalusia. The Universidad de Sevilla (University of Seville) -- founded in the sixteenth century -- has more than sixty-five thousand students.

With such rich history, the city has much to offer and you can easily spend more than a week in the city. There are several world-famous fiestas that attract millions of tourists. Easter in Seville is one of the most important cultural and religious events that take place in the city. Feria de Abril is another famous festival and Seville is known for its bullfight (corrida) stadium, which is one of the largest in the world. You can also visit the Cathedral of Seville with its Giralda (bell tower from the fifteenth century), the Alcázar of Seville (the oldest royal palace in Europe that is still in use), and the Theatre Maestranza.

The number of hostels in Seville is huge and the city is a paradise for each backpacker and budget traveler. Seville hostels are located virtually in every part of the city, so you can decide where you want to stay. The wide range of Seville hostels includes everything -- starting from very cheap, basic hostels through moderately priced hostels and finishing with high-end, expensive hostels in Seville. There is something that is quite interesting about Seville hostels -- higher prices do not necessarily mean better quality, and often, there are Seville hostels with low prices offering better conditions than other overpriced hostels.
