Guess what? Brandenburg an der Havel is also named and spelled Brandenburg City - It is the same destination. Goodbye confusion.

Brandenburg an der Havel (Brandenburg City), Brandenburg, Germany, is situated in the state of Brandenburg in eastern Germany. It lies on the banks of the River Havel, which flows through northeastern Germany. Around seventy-one thousand people inhabit the historically important town, which used to be a very important centre for steel and manufacturing industries -- bicycles, planes, and vehicles were produced here.

The history of the town is also connected to the crimes of Nazi Germany. One of the first concentration camps was opened in Brandenburg an der Havel, and later the Brandenburg Euthanasia Centre -- where people with mental or physical defects were systematically killed -- was founded. Apart from this sad part of this history, the town has a lot of more to offer for visitors. Architecture lovers will be pleased by the so called Dominsel, literally translated in English as Cathedral Island. This historic part of Brandenburg includes numerous important Gothic brick buildings. Therefore, it is also part of the European Gothic brick building route. Tourists who like to be more active in their holidays can try out kayaking or book boat cruises on the lovely and tranquil River Havel.

If you want to spend some time in Brandenburg an der Havel, you can chose from guesthouses, holiday apartments, and several hotels and hostels in Brandenburg an der Havel (Brandenburg City), Brandenburg, Germany. If you cannot find a place to stay in Brandenburg an der Havel, check out the nearby town of Werder or the city of Potsdam. There you can find additional budget accommodations such as hostels with a decent quality.

In the historical part of the town, Dominsel, tourists can visit the oldest remaining building here, Dom St. Peter und Paul, the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul. The cathedral with a Gothic style was opened in the fourteenth century and offers beautiful interior design. Other important buildings with a brick Gothic architecture are the watchtower Rathenower Torturm; St. Catherine's Church (Katharinenkirche); St. Gotthardt's Church (Gotthardtskirche); and the Old Town Hall Altstädtisches Rathaus, which is considered to be an extraordinary architectural masterpiece of the Gothic style. A supply of museums welcomes culturally interested visitors. Brandenburg Industrial Museum is part of the European Route of Industrial Heritage and tells the story of the formerly important industries in the town, which are mainly steel and automobile industries. The core of the museum is the Siemens Martin Furnace, one of the last ones of its kind in Western Europe, which used to serve for steel production.
