Booking is almost impossible to make. On phone their staff doesnt answer properly, they dont give full information and what they say is often wrong. Finally on book made they were still like telling that they have no rooms available. AC doesnt work properly, sheets are often dirty. They dont clean the room each day as they should, and there were lizards too inside the room, living on the back of the AC. Finally, when u check out be careful cause also if the hostel empty, if you skip the regular check out time they can charge u an entire day amount and without receipt too, maybe as tip for the disappointing reception service that the day before can say u too that there are no extra fees leaving within lunch time. They dont care of your nationality, are just unfriendly with anyone. I. really dont know how they can have joined international standards, but i have serious doubts that they reach those standards.
Never Get availability
When ever i come to Delhi and request for availability, I never get.

Great disappointment
The staff are liars. I tried to book a dorm bed (after finally I could reach them on the phone), they told me they are fully booked. I had to book another hostel for this night. On the next day I came straight to the HI hostel and I could check in promptly. In the 6 bed female dorm was only one other guest. She told me that she has been alone for the last days. All the other beds have been empty. This behavior is really a shame for the the Youth Hostels Association. Particularly as a german, I feel frustrated, what would Richard Schirrman say to the staff of the HI New Delhi Youth Hostel? Eventually you can see, they have disrespect for ALL nationalities, not only for Afghans or Indians. That's the only good conclusion about it.
Awful Place -- worst place i have stayed in India
I can't believe that the other reviews are real -- this place is awful. I have been staying in many places in India and 3 different hostels in Delhi. This one was by far the worst. Very unfriendly staff, waking up at 8 am, very dirty, blood and dried puke on the 'clean' bed sheets, rats in the dining hall, location quite but really remote, Internet didn't work and is only available 4 hours per day. Felt like military camp just worse. Don't go. There are many better places in Delhi!

Can't get anything better at that price
I visited this place (behind chinese embassy) a week back and stayed for 3 days. i am from south india and i booked a dorm room (rs275 per day) through their online booking almost a month before and everything gone fine. Currently it is refurbished and everything is good. The lunch is expensive at rs75 and dinner at rs50, but this is mostly of roti and dal. They are serving free breakfast which is bread omlet and banana with coffee/tea or bread+butter, banana with coffee/tea option and it is good. The only disadvantage of this place is there wasn't any eateries outside where you can chose your food. There is one small street mulcha marg behind the hostel where some kirana stores type are selling sandwiches and one eaterie selling samosas as well. I can't find anyone serving rice there and there are few restaurants on that street which are very expensive. overall this is a nice place to stay in delhi and the nearest bus stop is chanakyapuri police station just a walk down beside the srilankan embassy (from the youth hostel walk down towards kautilya marg and turn right you can find srilankan embassy on the left side). From this bus stop most buses (620,604) you can go to central secretariat metro.
Could do better
Described as being a "new", it does not appear that way. Rooms are ok and relatively clean. However there is a general malaise about the place. From reception, who will make you wait until they have finshed whatever they are doing before acknowleging you, to the canteen who do apparently do not have milk for your black coffee, the the laundry guy who thinks its OK to knock on every door at 9.00 in the morning, to the broken internet terminals. As of the 5th March they no longer provide lunch or dinner, so if you arrive in the evening you need to eat outside the hostel. There are restaurants close by, however they are expensive so you are limited to a few take away joints, but the signs in the canteen forbid eating food bought outside. Other than that the location is quiet and is closer to the airport than most other choices.

Excellent place at Delhi.
I m familiar with this Youth Hostel since last decade. This place is well communicated in Delhi. The accommodation and reception are too familiar. Right choice of Visitor/Students.

It's good and comfortable place
I think that is very much facilitate one's difficulties of accommodation in such a metropolitan city, but man sitting in receptionist seat is very weird in sense of behaviour and he always not allowed afghans to stay as he lies and pretend there is not any bed even though i have seen there were many beds available.
