Pepper Hills Hostels is a hidden paradise for nature lovers surrounded by nothing but lush green hills and amazing flowery vegetation. The traditional architecture, delicious and cheap local food, comfortable beds, and vast garden all contribute to the experience that makes its way to your heart right away. While it is definitely off the beaten track, you have a local bus stopping right in front of the hostel, so by opting to stay here you will not give up the option to visit Ella and the surrounding natural wonders either.
The Location
The hostel is perched on top of a hill, overlooking a spectacularly beautiful valley and a panorama of a mountain range in the distance. Do not be fooled though -- it is not in Ella town! It is in Badulla, about ten kilometres south of Ella, so unless you have your own transportation, you will be relying on local buses to get around. There is a waterfall nearby, but for most of the other attractions, you won't be able to get there on foot. However, your efforts will pay off, as just a few days here will really rejuvenate you with the place's amazing natural energy and the company of likeminded people.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel consists of one small building -- it only has twelve beds (which are built against the walls), so make sure to book in advance to avoid disappointment! The beds are equipped with curtains, which do a great job at blocking out the light, and they have a reading lamp and electronic plugs inside. The bathrooms are outside in a separate building, but there are plenty of them for the amount of people staying and they are clean and comfortable.
Common Spaces
The best thing about this hostel is the vast green area surrounding it; you will find everything that can help you relax here. From a mini lake to a flower garden, from hammocks to solitary corners, this place is ideal if you need a few days of withdrawal into nature away from it all. If you like animals, you will also enjoy the company of some farm pets, like dogs, cats, and ducks. Watching the sunrise from here is priceless, and on a clear night you get an amazing view of the night sky as well. However, there is also an indoors common area, which is separated from the hostel by only a half wall, which is a great addition in case of rain. There are a few bean bags here and a table that is ideal for playing board games.

If you love nature and need to slow down for a few days, you have found an excellent destination! Peppers Hills is unique not only because of its location but also because the emphasis is on quality over quantity -- you will be able to enjoy local beauty and Western comfort all in one!

• •Get to the Ella city center by train and take a bus towards Wellawaya and get off from 9th miles post. (Bus fee is 40 rupees/ 15 min)
• •Get to the Ella city center by train and take a tuk tuk to 9th miles post. (Tuk tuk fee is 1000 rupees/ 15 min)
• •Get to Wellawaya by bus and get a bus towards Ella and get off from 9th miles post. (Bus fee is 30 rupees/ 15 min)
• •Get to Wellawaya by bus and take a tuk tuk to 9th miles post. (Tuk tuk fee is 700 rupees/ 15 min)
• The most easiest and best way to get to the property by Train. Any bus going towards Wellawaya will take you to the hostel and the bus stop is 9th miles post which is in front of the hostel. If you prefer to take a tuk tuk it will be 6 USD from Ella to the property. We have a shuttle service and it is also a option to call us if you want us to pick you up.
