We love, love, love Hostal Cocobomgo! The people who run this place are nothing short of the most friendly people on the face of the planet!
The Location
Hostal Cocobomgo is located in the town centre of Minca, just a short walk from where the shuttle from Santa Marta drops you off. The town itself is small, so everything you need in terms of food and amenities, you will find within walking distance of the town.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms here are comfortable and clean. Each bed has sheets and blankets in case it gets cold in the night and a mosquito net to protect you from those annoying bites while sleeping. The ladies clean the rooms and make your beds daily.
The bathrooms are also lovely and clean. The showers are cold water, which is a standard in these parts; it's more like a tap running than a shower head, but it is clean and it does the job.
Common Spaces
In the main reception area, they have a couple of chairs and tables and a television. You can't be caught in this area without someone who works there fussing over you sitting down for a rest or asking you if you'd like a juice to drink (they have free juice going all day long). The kitchen next to it has everything you need to cook a good meal and they have a chest fridge in which to keep cold produce. In the mornings at around 8, they will make a complimentary breakfast for you.
The hostel has an area with hammocks for you to lay about and relax and read some. There is also an area with tables and chairs around the other side, where they have laid out books in different languages for you to read if you don't have a book. The hostel also backs onto the river; during the day it is possible to go and sit by the river and relax.
Summary
The thing that makes this place so amazing are the people that work here. Most of them don't speak any English, so if you don't speak Spanish it will be a little more difficult, but they will go the distance to help you with anything at all that you need. The hostel is a quiet and relaxed place where it's possible to meet a few other relaxed travelers and more local people. We cannot recommend it enough!
