Honey Hostel Reviews

Honey Hostel is a cute little hostel that is decorated with a lot of yellow and bees; we're still not entirely sure why they chose the theme, but we find it quite sweet.

The Location

The hostel is located by the Moscow River, in a quiet part of town, away from the busy center. The closest public transportation is the bus; there are a few bus stops around the corner, and there are a couple of metro stations about a half-hour walk away. There is a bank nearby and a supermarket just across the street, which is quite convenient. We're not entirely sure though how nice is it to walk around here at night; the way from the metro might be a bit sketchy after dark.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The hostel is located in a small apartment on the first floor of a larger building. Things look pretty old, but they still work. The rooms are small and crowded, and at times when the bunk beds are all full, they have extra foldable beds, which means there's barely room to move, and very little space for stuff and backpacks. There are lamps by all the beds but not enough power outlets. The beds are equipped with personal curtains, which helps if you like privacy. There are only two toilets and two showers for everybody, which is a bit tight and also means they get dirty very fast. There is hand soap and even towels are provided -- that's nice.

Common Spaces

Except for a very small dining table by the kitchen, there aren't any common spaces to hang out really, so it looks like many people hang out in bed, and not much mingling is happening between travelers. There is the small kitchen that is available for cooking, though, and there is a small TV at the dining area, which is just by reception. There is free Wi-Fi, which works well. They also sell some inexpensive snacks and drinks in reception.

Summary

We had a nice stay here and the staff are friendly enough. They even let us check in a bit earlier on the day we arrived, as well as keeping our bags for us for a few hours after we checked out; however, we cannot say this hostel has that fun backpackers atmosphere. It mostly offers an affordable bed in a big city, but we expected more.
