As with all Ostelo Bello hostels in Myanmar, Ostello Bello Nyaung Shwe is the place to be if you want to party and meet like-minded people. Expect a young crowd and a vibrant atmosphere. There is a rooftop bar, loads of trips on offer (some trips such as the long-necked women are purposely omitted for ethical reasons), and there are heaps of facilities on offer. A great breakfast is included in the price and the building is very secure, artistically decorated, and spotlessly clean too.
The Location
Whichever transport you arrive on, you will be dropped off very close to the river, which is where the town centre begins. You'll see a large bridge crossing the river; head away from the bridge into the town and keep to the right-hand side. On the fifth right you will see 81 Hotel. Turn right here and walk a further fifty meters. The hostel will be on your right-hand side.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Rooms are furnished to a high standard, with large, comfy beds that don't creak at all. There are also large lockers beneath the beds, into which you can put your packs. Each dorm has an en suite bathroom equipped with a toilet, shower, and wash basins, all in separate cubicles. These are also kitted out to a high level, similar to a top hotel. There's also air conditioning and full control over the remote control to set it as cold as you like. There are reading lights and plug sockets for every bed and you're supplied with a key to lock the rooms.
Common Spaces
These are the main draws for this chain of hostel. Downstairs, you have a range of seating options, guidebooks and books to browse through, and guitar to play, plus free tea and coffee and food served throughout the day. They also give out small bowls of free pasta three times a day. Outside, there is more seating so you can relax in the sun, and on the roof there is a buzzing rooftop bar. This may be closed, however, if it's raining. Food and drink deals are on every day and each day the hostel puts on a surprise activity like quiz nights or beer pong. Wi-Fi is strong throughout the building, although this can be slow at times due to the amount of guests that can stay here
Summary
This place has a great atmosphere where you can easily meet people. Drinks are cheap and the dorms and free food on offer are perfect for hangovers. It's great to see a hostel running trips with ethics in mind, and they even do a daily bike tours of town and sights. The bar has a great view, and when it closes at 11, the hostel is within walking distance to everything. There are many cheap boat trips available and always people to team up to share the cost.

• All bus companies will drop you at Yone Gyi Street just a short 3-4 min walk from us. No need for a taxi or tuk-tuk! Just head west down Yone Gyi street (if you're standing in the bus station, you would make a right). You'll see the large yellow OSTELLO BELLO sign on our rooftop. If you pass a big red mini mart called T&T, you're walking the wrong direction. If you cross over a bridge, you've gone too far!
