Chami's Place is definitely the best hostel in Hikkaduwa. It's close to the town, yet feels like you're living in a remote area surrounded by trees. There's a really friendly atmosphere, especially in the evenings, and you'll be able to easily meet people of all ages. There's a brilliant breakfast included in the price and this is great opportunity to meet other guests and make travel plans.

The Location

The buses will drop you off on the main road that passes through the town; this could be anywhere along this road so you'll need to ask someone to direct you to the Coral Reef Hotel, which is one of the biggest hostels in town. Opposite this, there is a small road leading away from the sea. Walk down here, go over the train track, and you will see the hostel on your left after twenty meters.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Short beds seem to be a common thing in Hikkaduwa hostels, but this hostel is an exception -- these beds are long and extremely comfy. They also come with mosquito nets (which are definitely needed), and plug sockets. Air conditioning and ceiling fans are installed, and the room is decorated nicely too. There's lots of room and there are lockers big enough for a forty-liter backpack. Bathrooms with hot showers are present and these are kept clean. The showers aren't great, but finding a hot shower around here is a rarity.

Common Spaces

The main area has one long table with comfortable cushions. This makes socializing easy, as everyone will be sitting together. It's a great place to have breakfast and you'll always see people here in the mornings. In the evenings, if people aren't here, then they will be up in the second common area, which is like a treehouse. This has seating arranged in a circle, making it an awesome place to just rock up to and meet people. The Wi-Fi works perfectly and the food served is great too.

Summary

This is a sociable and super chilled-out place to stay. Travelers of all ages will feel right at home here, and it's a great place to be if you're a solo traveler looking to meet people. It's clean and comfortable, and the guys running it are great to chat with too.
