If you can no longer stand staying in hostels and paying way too much for the services they offer, consider staying in this budget hotel. I stayed here with my girlfriend a couple of weeks ago (May 2004) and I was quite pleased with the room (very clean, nice bathroom, very spacious), and their service (excellent staff, very good breakfast, maps, and all the help you could need to get around in the city and enjoy your stay). I have to mention also the 24-hour reception. It is great if you want to go out and spend the night drinking some good Italian wine without getting locked out, like in most places!

If you are going to Rome and have a low budget consider this hotel. It is in a good location (walking distance to the Termini railway station), has a low price, and all the essentials (private bathroom, tv, etc.). It is also clean and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Oh, I almost forget to tell you they serve quite a good capuccino for breakfast!

In the summer of 2002 we two Finnish girls went to Rome and stayed at the Hotel Philia. We got a nice two-bed room with our own shower and toilet, and nice view of the Via Palestro. The hostel is 300 meters to Termini train station, which is not that much, and all Rome is within walking distance. (One day we walked to Vatican and saw the main attractions). Via Palestro is a short walking trip from the Roman Colosseum. The only annoying thing was that the old lady in reception could not speak English, only Italian, but we managed anyway (she must have been the owner's mother.) She and the other staff were very friendly. Compared to others in costly Italy, we found this hostel to be a bit of luxury at cheap price. I can recommend this hostel. Remember to always book in advance in Italy.
