Get to know Ungasan (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Ungasan.

Ungasan is located on the southern tip of the exotic Indonesian island Bali. Even if it is situated on the highly popular Bukit Peninsula, the village itself is nested in a rather remote location, far away from the hustle and bustle of nearby Kuta and the glamorous luxury of Nusa Dua. This place is not for everybody, but is ideal for the lovers of nature and quiet relaxation. It is a place little explored and it still offers some of the authentic charm of the Bali as it used to be before it was invaded by tourists.

With the Indian Ocean on one side, the area is characterised by a dramatic coastlines, beautiful turquoise beaches, and amazing surf spots. One of the most spectacular locations of the area is called Blue Point Beach, which is basically a crystal clear watered beach at the foot of a high rocky cliff with some dramatic cliff formations along the shore. Another one is the Green Bowl Beach, which is a hidden paradise. Although you do need to make the effort of climbing down a few hundred stairs to get here, the view that will welcome you is worth every effort. Last, but not least, Karma Beach is guaranteed to take your breath away if you are willing to pay the rather expensive entrance fee for this luxurious private beach.

If you are in the area, you should definitely not miss the Uluwatu cliff-top Hindu temple either, which marks the southern tip of the island and offers breathtaking views at sunset and all through the day. If you decide to take the walk along the cliff tops, be careful with the cheeky monkeys that live in the forest nearby, as they are known to trick tourists by borrowing their hats and sunglasses.

Arriving at Ungasan is relatively easy as the Ngurah Rai International Airport is less than ten kilometres from here. However, from the airport, your best bet is to take a taxi or rent your own transportation to get you to your Ungasan hostel, as the local buses rarely pass through this area.
