Get to know Cahuita (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Cahuita.

Cahuita, Costa Rica, is a small town located on the southern tip of Costa Rica's Caribbean coast. Like most places in the Caribbean, the culture is an amazing mix of Spanish, English, Creole, and African influences. Everything from food, dance, music, and the vibe are all centered around the Caribbean feel and way of life. Cahuita has so much Caribbean soul that you might think you went to Jamaica from all the Bob Marley flags, reggae music, and jerk chicken vendors on the sandy roads. The town is quite small, but due to its proximity to tourist centers like Puerto Viejo and Bocas del Toro, it boast an impressive array of restaurants, bars, and tourist activities including surfing, chocolate tasting and visiting National Parks and sloth sanctuaries.

Although rather small, the town offers all the amenities a traveler may require, such as laundry service, post office, adventure tours, and pharmacy. The ATM dispenses both local currency (Colones) and American dollars. The hostels are all located quite central and within a short walk from the beach, the tourist strip and all the amenities that Cahuita has to offer.

Getting to Cahuita is very simple. Buses run up and down the Caribbean coast from Sixaola (Costa Rica and Panama border town) up to Limon every hour during the day and every two hours during the night. These buses are extremely affordable and rival coach buses in the developed world. Renting a car or inter-city shuttle is also an easy option for those with a higher budget.

Cahuita is a must-visit for anyone who wishes to soak in some Caribbean culture, beautiful beaches, and famous Costa Rican wildlife. You will be saying "Pura Vida" in no time!
