Get to know Tadoussac (no more "I wish I knew this before")

This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Tadoussac.

Tadoussac is a small town on the St. Lawrence River, famous for its whale watching -- if there is a place to see whales in Canada, this is the place. There is an abundance of tour companies that take you out on different boats -- from zodiacs to large passenger vessels -- for a couple of hours at a time. You can get information about tour companies from the Information Centre on Rue des Pionniers, which is the main street of the town. You can also get maps of the town and other information on activities and historical sites within the area from here. They can also speak English, which is useful in this area as most of the locals speak French.

The town itself is small and you can comfortably walk around on foot. There are old hotels, church buildings, and other historical centers about the trade that occurred in Tadoussac between the Europeans and the native tribes that put this town on the map. There are also an abundance of small souvenir shops that contain handmade local produce and native souvenirs. Small and funky cafes and restaurants also line the streets with some amazing foods, especially seafood, on the menu. The other thing that you should not miss is the view over the river from the top of the hill -- it is spectacular.

The hostels in Tadoussac are either off the main highway or just off the main road in the township itself. You can find a basic grocery store on Rue des Pionniers for food. It is recommended that you have a car to get to and from here, as transport to the area can be difficult.
