Brazil is home to many gorgeous beach cities. Cabo Frio is a small town that is one of the top tourist destinations in Brazil. It is located in the Lake Region northeast of the capital, Rio. It is, in fact, one of the top getaways for Brazilian locals as well. The city is situated two hours away from the Rio International Airport. It has the sea and a lagoon to boast of, along with a range of water sports and activities.
If you are planning on staying in Cabo Frio for a while, be sure to check out the many hostels in the city. The hostels are cheap and fun to stay in. Owners in the hostels are very friendly and can give you good recommendations on where to go and what to do in and around the city while you stay there. If possible, try to get a place near the Praia do Forte.
The Fort Beach is named for the large fort that is still standing on the eastern end of the beach. This was built in the early 1600s and was an ancient coastal defense. The coast of the Fort Beach is about four miles in length and is very isolated. You cannot surf here, but many people bodyboard, windsurf, and kite surf. The nearby lagoon is a prime spot for fly fishing too.
Along with the beaches, Cabo Frio has great seafood. The Itajuru Canal is home to some very high-end restaurants, although local cuisine at a smaller eatery can be delicious as well as cheap. If you want to shop after you dine, you can cross the Feliciana Sodre Bridge to enter Gamboa, the shopping district of the town. The climate in Cabo Frio is much cooler than it is in nearby Rio de Janeiro. You get perfect sea swimming conditions all year round, along with pleasant sunny weather.
