This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Feldkirch.

Feldkirch is a lovely, small, historic city in the western Austrian state of Vorarlberg, located on the border with Liechtenstein. It was first mentioned in the early thirteenth century, when Count Hugo von Montfort built the Castle Schattenburg, which is now the main attraction of the city. The castle is well preserved and offers a museum, restaurant, and some truly fascinating views of the city and its surroundings.

An important landmark in the city worth visiting is the Main Street Marktgasse or Market Alley, which was also the location for one of the scenes in the movie "James Bond: Quantum of Solace." Also worth visiting are the St. Nicholas Cathedral from the late Gothic period, The Churertor (Chur Gate), the Katzenturm, or the Cats' Tower, and several other towers that were part of the old city wall. In case you are looking for something different and perhaps a little more family-friendly, there is a nice wildlife park, Wildpark Feldkirch, located just a short drive from the old city center.

The medieval city of Feldkirch is certainly a nice place to relax and spend a day or two, especially if you are interested in history and old architecture. The Feldkirch hostel options there are very limited, but as mentioned the city is small, and it can be quite easily explored in a single afternoon. While you're traveling through this region, you might also want to pay a visit to the nearby cities of Dornbirn and Bregenz (the capital of Vorarlberg), which offer a couple of interesting sights of their own, and are located a rather short drive from Feldkirch.
