Generally good, but some deficits
Good except that Reception was to open at 7 a.m., for return of key deposit, but didn't open until 7:30 a.m., delaying my leaving. Some bedrooms were near the lounge, so those who go to bed early could be adversely affected by noise from the lounge. Bathroom needs some upgrade -- for example only one of three sinks had a working hot water faucet.

Great Kiwi Hostel Lives
After traveling around NZ for a few months It was great to arrive at Bazils, true Kiwi feel about the place, Owners are very friendly and helpful, told us all the secret spots to go visit around the area. Loved the place, good on ya guys.

Awful
Stayed at this place precisely once. Will never return. The checkout time was 10am and after we requested a short extension of the check out time, we were hounded out of our room by the staff in an incredibly rude manner. Definitely one of the least friendly places I have ever stayed.

Lovely hostel
This hostel is just as nice as those pictures make it look. One of the nicest, homiest hostels we stayed in throughout NZ. Not much to do in Westport though.

Great hostel. Strange town.
We stayed here in December 2008 as part of the Kiwi Experience. It's a great little hostel that has a really homey feel and the owners are top people. Though small it has plenty of character and a garden at the back which is a complete sun trap (and a great place to dry your washing for free!). Westport itself doesn't have a lot to offer but it has several bars and the locals are really friendly people that are happy to talk away the night over a beer. Or ten. Sample the beers and absorb some small town culture (by culture I mean gossip).
