Spoke'n Hostel Reviews

Spoke'n Hostel reflects the fun to be had in Mitchell, Oregon, as well as the surrounding natural beauty. While this is a small town with a population in the low triple digits, don't let the size fool you -- you'll find big fun!

The Location

Spoke'n Hostel is conveniently located on Highway Twenty-Six, just a few miles east of the Painted Hills. Other than a sign out front welcoming hostel guests, the exterior still looks like a small-town church, with the inside completely renovated. The hostel has its own parking lot with plenty of room for all guest cars. However, since this hostel is along the TransAmerica Trail, many guests arrive by bicycle, and the hostel caters to cyclists with everything they may need on their long journey across the states. Everything in the town of Mitchell, including all of the restaurants, is just a few steps away.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The front entrance of Spoke'n Hostel leads into the main dorm. The renovated church sanctuary now has beautiful, locally made, wooden bunk beds where pews once were. A hangout spot with comfy seating is now on the stage, and next to that are pianos if you're feeling musically inclined. Linens are already on the beds, and each bed has curtains to give you a little more privacy. Private rooms are also available. No matter which room you stay in, you'll have your own shelves for your belongings and charging ports for your electronics.

There is a bathroom on both floors of the hostel, with only a toilet and sink. A heated shower house is in the backyard. Both the bathrooms and shower house are spacious with plenty of room to change and set down belongings.

Common Spaces

The basement is the main hangout spot. This is where you'll find the kitchen that offers a continental breakfast, a bookcase full of board games and puzzles, and plenty of seating areas. The backyard overlooks Bridge Creek and has seating areas and recreational areas. There's even a barbershop in the hostel. The free Wi-Fi works well throughout the building and outdoors.

Summary

Staying at Spoke'n Hostel is a fun, cozy way to spend your stay in a small town while exploring the surrounding John Day Fossil Beds and other eastern Oregon marvels.
