Fairy Hostel, Nuwara Eliya

Fairy Hostel is a hidden gem of Nuwara Eliya! Run by an extremely friendly local family who will go out of their way to make your time memorable, it is a place that really revolves around helping backpackers have a nice time in this mountain location.

The Location

Fairy Hostel is located more or less in the center of Nuwara Eliya. It is not particularly close to any of the main attractions, but it is in equal distance from all of them. Victoria Park is about twenty minutes on foot from here and from there, you can get to the double lakes in fifteen minutes. In the other direction, you have the tea factory and waterfall, which would also take you about twenty-five minutes to reach. Last, but not least, the bus stop and the heritage post office opposite it can also be reached in less than half an hour. While it is not in the touristic center, its location in a valley amongst lush green hillsides and tea plantations makes you just want to sit in the garden forever, soaking in the panoramas.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Although the hostel is not big, it offers quite a number of tiny dorm rooms, most of which have only four beds. However, in case you are a couple, you can also get a double bed inside one of the dorms, which is in a slightly private corner. The rooms are not modern or stylish, but the whole place has a really nice welcoming atmosphere, which creates a good vibe amongst guests as well.

Common Spaces

Although there is not much space inside, if you are lucky and it is not raining, you will just love the outdoor spaces of the hostel! There is an amazing terrace that is carefully decorated with mosaics and sculptures and which offers a fantastic view over the surrounding areas. There is also an enclosed grassy section with a swinging bed and some other hidden spots where you can sit and socialize. There is breakfast included in the price, which is one toast with jam and one with eggs and a banana ,and of course, locally produced tea!

Fairy Hostel is truly magical! Finally a place where you feel that the owners are in it out of passion and not for the money and it is their honour to provide excellent service and keep guests happy!
