Backpackers Home Salta is an overall cheap and good alternative for backpackers to spend a night or two, but might be a poor option for guests seeking comfort. It's situated relatively far from the city center, but is still close to local shops. The overall condition of the hostel is not that great, but it is offset by the low price and is in fact one of the cheapest options available around the area.
The Location
The hostel is located approximately twenty minutes' walk from the main city plaza "Plaza 9 de Julio," where the majority of restaurants, bars, and museums are located. Nevertheless, there are a couple of grocery shops close by and a "food street" just five minutes away, where locals go for lunch. Unfortunately, the hostel is located by the side of a road and city noise is notable inside it.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Backpackers Home has a few options for private rooms and dorms, but the hostel is not large. The available options are rather compact, just like the hostel itself. In dorm rooms there are spacious lockers and few furniture items. The private rooms are equipped with essential furniture too. Both room options have seen better days and are well-used. Bathrooms and showers are not that clean either. There are several shower cabins, but not all of them have hot running water.
Common Spaces
The hostel has a kitchen and a couple of lounging areas for the guests to use at will. The lounging areas are comfortable and well lit. The main one, near the kitchen, has many power outlets. Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi signal in them is weak and one should be near the hostel's reception to have a strong signal; otherwise the Wi-Fi is relatively fast. Meanwhile, the kitchen is not well equipped (it's missing cups and cutlery, and it's not clean either).
Summary
The condition of this hostel is not that great, but it is indeed offset by the low price of dormitory rooms and is one of the cheapest available options around the central area of Salta city. You'll just have to decide for yourself which is more of a priority for you.
