Casa Profunda Hostel is in Ríohacha, the capital city of the department of La Gujiara. It is the starting point of tours going to Cabo de la Vela and Punta Gallinas, the northernmost place in South America.
The Location
The hostel is located in the center of the town, one minute's walking from the beach, and there is a supermarket nearby. Also, the main square, with the park and the church, is at the corner of the same street of the hostel. From the bus station it is a solid twenty-minute walk and it is not recommended to do it after 6 p.m., especially alone. The town itself seems quite safe in the daytime, but it gets empty at night so you probably don’t want to venture alone.
Rooms and Bathrooms
It has dorms and privates. The cheapest dorms don’t have air conditioning, and have bunk beds. It’s gets pretty hot in the evening, as the town is located in a desert area. However each bed has its own little fan right above the head, so it helps to cool down the heat, but can be a bit noisy. Mattresses are great and each bed has its own curtains so you can have private time. There are also plugs for electricity and a personal light at each bed. Lockers are available in the room, right beneath the beds, but you need a padlock.
There is a bathroom shared between two dorms with shower and toilet and another toilet only for one room. The rooms is clean and the bathrooms are too; they only have cold water and there is not much water available (but it isn't limited to the hostel, as Ríohacha is in the desert and there is scarcity of water).
Common Spaces
There is an area in front of the reception with a sofa and a computer that guests can use. There is a larger open space with a bar and a small swimming pool with tables, chairs, and sofas. A kitchen is available free of use to guests, and the cooking equipment is of a good quality. It is not a party hostel but it has a nice chill vibe where guests tend to hang around the pool in the evening. It is definitely easy to meet other travelers as most of the people in Ríohacha use it as a starting point for exploring the eastern part of La Gujiara, and everyone is willing to share their plans and look for suggestions.
Summary
In general, it is a great place to stay for a couple of nights before exploring La Gujiara, with a perfect location and nice common areas. If you suffer in the heat it can be a problem, as the rooms don’t have air conditioning, but the fan works fine. The owner works in the hostel and tries to help as much as she can.

• De l’aéroport:
• L'aéroport est à la périphérie de la ville et à environ 40 minutes à pied de notre Hostel. La meilleure option est de prendre un taxi qui vous emmène à notre Hostel en 10 minutes et coûte 10 000 COP. Si vous décidez de marcher, vous sortez de l'aéroport et vous pouvez suivre tout droit sur la Carrera 15 pour env. 35 min. jusqu'à la Calle 4. La vous tournez à droite, suivez la rue pour 5 min., vous traversez un parc et notre Hostel se trouve à la fin du prochain bloc.
• Du terminal de bus:
• À pied vous joignez notre Hostel en env. 15-20 minutes. En sortant du terminal, tournez à droit dans la Calle 15 jusqu'à un rond-point. La vous tournez à gauche dans la Carrera 7, et marchez tout droit jusqu'à la Calle 4, ou se trouve notre Hostel. En taxi, il faut environ 5 minutes et ça vous coûte 5’000 COP (prix standard pour tous Riohacha).
