Take Me Home Reviews

Take Me Home is a tiny, family-run hostel near the centre of Chiang Rai. It is cosy and offers a lot of extras for free but fails to attract more than a few guests per night, so it feels quite awkward to stay here for a long time.

The Location

The hostel is located near the motorway that connects Chiang Mai with the Laotian border, but it is also not far away from the centre of the town. The main shopping area as well as the night market with its diverse musical and dance performances can be reached from here after a twenty-minute walk. Moreover, there is a direct bus from here to the airport that you can pay to take. However, it is far enough from the centre to be able to offer some local-style eateries, which are more reasonably priced than restaurants in the centre. If you came all the way to Chiang Rai, you will probably want to visit the White Temple; although it is thirteen kilometres from here, there are shuttle buses departing pretty much from the doorstep of the hostel!

Rooms and Bathrooms

There is only one room in the hostel -- a dorm with bunk beds. There is no door to this area, so it feels like you are in the corridor, and while the beds have curtains around them, you will have to keep these open to enjoy the fan. The style in which the beds are arranged is quite nice, but the beds are incredibly hard and the mattress is not completely flat, so it is not a comfortable place to sleep at all! The bathrooms are downstairs. They offer shower gel and shampoo, but the facilities are quite old and not too clean either.

Common Spaces

On the floor of the dorm, there is a sitting area with a lot of books and boardgames. However, the bench-style arrangement does not offer a very comfortable place to relax. You can also try the small area near the reception, but this is normally occupied by the kids of the owner. However, in the mornings, you can make a nice cup of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate here and drink it on the small patio outside.

Summary

Take Me Home is a decent enough place for the price. However, most of the furniture is quite uncomfortable; the beds are really hard and there are no soft seating surfaces anywhere in the hostel.
