This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. This way, you can spend less time settling in, and more time making new friends in your chosen hostel. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Granada.

Granada, Nicaragua, is a large colonial town located midway through the country along the shores of Lake Nicaragua. Granada has a fascinating history of colonialism, rebellion, and scandal. The streets are littered with bright colours; Spanish-influenced architecture; and free museums on topics ranging from coffee, chocolate, history, and art. There are many volcanoes in the nearby region and many companies offer tours that range from quick day hikes to weekend camping trips. The downtown strip offers impressive cuisine and exciting nightlife, making this a great place for all different people and paces.

Getting to and from Granada is easy, as it's a large city in the middle of the country and most shuttles and buses start, end, or stop in Granada. Getting around is no problem either, as taxis and tuk-tuks are abundant and rather inexpensive. Make sure to walk in the markets and churches for an authentic and beautiful look into Nicaraguan culture.

As in other large and touristy cities, hostels in Granada are abundant and research is definitely required, as they range from beautiful hostels with gardens and pools to those in which you feel like crammed sardines in a can. Most are located downtown and within walking distance to attractions, shopping, laundry, and any other product or services your heart desires. The prices are affordable, making this a place for all backpackers to enjoy and experience.

Granada is a great place to relax on a patio, sip a coffee, take in the beautiful colonial architecture, and eat some delicious Nicaraguan fish.
