This section is dedicated to take away all your "I wish someone had told me that before I went!" experiences. We share our insider knowledge of tips, tricks and important things to look out for in Geraldine.

 The Giant Jersey

Geraldine is home to an abundance of things to see and do. If you are into vintage vehicles, the Vintage Car and Machinery Museum is home to more than thirty vintage vehicles and tractors that date back to the early 1900s. Geraldine is also home to a variety of different arts and has a great craft scene to explore; there are multiple festivals over the summer season that celebrate their arts and crafts as well as the gardens that they have here, so investigate these before visiting. Some attractions in Geraldine are also seasonal, so make sure to double check before you go if there is something that interests you.

Around the area is an abundance of hiking, including walks through the Peel Forest Park, which is only a short drive from Geraldine. This park is home to some of the spectacular plants and animals that are native to New Zealand. Make sure that you don't miss the Big Tree Walk, which has trees of over a thousand years in age along the trail. For other short trails, you can get park maps. Nestled downtown is the Talbot Forest Scenic Reserve and this also has some spectacular scenery for those without access to a car to get around to some of the attractions that are further out of the town. In the winter months, you can ski around the Mount Dobson area.

Some Geraldine hostels are located right downtown and close to any of the amenities that you might need during your stay; some are located further out of the city and would require a car to get to. Make sure you investigate the location of your Geraldine hostel before booking if you do not have transport and need to be close to food and other supplies.
