Hostel Memphis serves traveling guests seeking a warm and safe place to stay while enjoying their time in Memphis. Hostel Memphis is located in the heart of Cooper Young, a vibrant and diverse neighborhood in Midtown Memphis. The neighborhood, a lively mix of homes, shops and restaurants, is known for its free-spirited ambiance, which attracts artists, musicians, and folks seeking a diverse, creative environment from which to live and work.

We have shared bunk rooms available and also private rooms. Our rooms are clean and comfortable, including adequate lighting, heating/air conditioning, linen and internet.

• First Congregational Church (Pilgrim House is located inside the church building)
• 1000 South Cooper Street
• Memphis, TN 38104
• Approaching Memphis via I-40 (from the east – Nashville)
• • As you are approaching Memphis, (after you pass the Sycamore View exit), move into the left lane.
• • I-40 will turn into Sam Cooper Boulevard if you just go straight. Stay on Sam Cooper Boulevard until it dead ends into East Parkway.
• • Turn left onto East Parkway.
• • Go straight through traffic lights at Poplar Ave., Madison Ave., and Central Ave.
• • The next light after Central Ave. is Young Ave. Turn right.
• • Go about 4-5 blocks on Young Ave. and turn left onto Blythe Street.
• • Go half a block – you’ll see the rear of the church on your right: 3 large yellow brick buildings.
• • Turn into the back parking lot and park. (If you’re staying in Pilgrim House, you’ll be entering the door closest to the playground. If you’re staying in the Retreat Center, you’ll be entering the door that goes into the basement of the middle building.)
• Approaching Memphis via I-55 or I-40 (from the north or west –St. Louis, Little Rock)
• • When you reach West Memphis, Arkansas, watch for signs for I-40 Memphis – you will be bearing left on I-40 (at this point, I-55 will bear off to the right – don’t go this way).
• • You will take the I-40 bridge over the Mississippi River into downtown Memphis.
• • Take the FIRST exit off the bridge – to the right. This is the Front St., Riverside Drive Exit.
• • Pass up Riverside, and go all the way to the end of the exit and turn right onto Front Street.
• • Take an immediate left at the traffic light onto Poplar Ave.
• • Stay on Poplar Ave. for several miles (like 4-5 miles). You will be leaving downtown and entering midtown Memphis.
• • When you pass a traffic light at McLean, watch for the NEXT light, which is Cooper Street. Turn right on Cooper St.
• • Stay on Cooper St. through traffic lights at Madison Ave., Union Ave., Peabody Ave., Central Ave., and Young Ave.
• • When you pass Young Ave., watch for the church on the left side of the street: 3 large yellow brick buildings.
• • Pull in the driveway just past the sanctuary and drive ALL THE WAY around the sanctuary building to the back of the 3 buildings and park. (If you’re staying in Pilgrim House, you will be entering the red door closest to the playground. If you’re staying in the Retreat Center, you will be entering the door that goes into the basement of the middle building.)
• Approaching Memphis via I-55 (from the south – Jackson, Mississippi)
• • As you approach Memphis, you will cross the state line into Tennessee. Stay on I-55 until you reach the I-240 west (Downtown) Exit.
• • Take I-240 west to the Union Ave. exit – go EAST.
• • Stay on Union through traffic lights at Bellevue, Cleveland, a few others, and McClean.
• • When you pass a traffic light at McClean, watch for the NEXT light, which is Cooper Street. Turn right on Cooper St.
• • Stay on Cooper St. through traffic lights at Peabody Ave., Central Ave., and Young Ave.
• • When you pass Young Ave., watch for the church on the left side of the street: 3 large yellow brick buildings.
• • Pull in the driveway just past the sanctuary and drive ALL THE WAY around the sanctuary building to the rear of the 3 buildings and park. (If you’re staying in Pilgrim House, you will be entering the red door closest to the playground. • From the Airport:
• • Follow the signs to I-240 out of the airport complex.
• • You will be on a road called Airways – stay on this road and do NOT take the actual exits onto I-240.
• • Stay on Airways for several miles. After you pass a traffic light at Lamar Ave., you will go over a couple of bridges.
• • After you pass the 2nd bridge, you’ll see a traffic light at Young Ave. Turn LEFT.
• • Go about 4-5 blocks on Young Ave. and turn left onto Blythe Street.
• • Go half a block – you’ll see the rear of the church on your right: 3 large yellow brick buildings.
• • Turn into the back parking lot and park. (If you’re staying in Pilgrim House, you’ll be entering the red door closest to the playground. If you’re staying in the Retreat Center, you’ll be entering the door that goes into the basement of the middle building.
