The HI Cabot Trail Hostel is under new ownership (Since 2008) and has been renovated to serve you better. We now offer a family room which comfortably sleeps a family of five. A private room, 4 bunk dorm room and our 10 bed bunkhouse with 3 piece bathroom. We also have cots available if needed. Two kitchens and two bathrooms compliment the main building along with the T.V. room and a large multipurpose room with book exchange. Outside we have two large decks one with BBQ. As well as a picnic area.
A short walk will take you to the beach and a working harbour, where you may watch the fishermen bringing in their Lobster or Snowcrab catch. The harbour also offers whale watching tours averaging 1 1/2 hours. Pleasant Bay is a great place to watch whales from as resident populations return each spring and is known as the whale watch capital of Cape Breton. There is also an Interpretation Center, so those of you without sea legs can still learn about our marine life.
As we are located half way around The Cabot Trail, you can tour the Trail and be back at the hostel before dark. We are surrounded by the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. This 1000 acre nature reserve is home to moose, bear, deer and many other species. Hiking in the park is a wonderful way to explore and spot these wonderful creatures in their natural habitiat. Information on areas of interest are available at the hostel.
Our price includes your bed for the night, all bed linen and comforters, hot showers, use of our facilities, BBQ and Internet access.
