Funky Fes Reviews

Funky Fes is a colorful, atmospheric hostel that is mostly managed by volunteer travelers in contrast to many other hostels in Fès, Morocco. They are very accommodative in helping with organizing trips or just in helping the more independent traveler with their plans. It is lively and nicely decorated, and a great place to relax, socialize, or maybe have a small party.

The Location

As it's located at the southern edge of Fès’ Medina on Rue Bab Jdid, your taxi driver should be able to bring you there or close for a small fee. Walking to the hostel through the Medina is a bit more tricky, even with GPS, but all the more fun. The hostel location on the edge of the Medina is a good base to venture into the busy parts of the Medina.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The six- to ten-bed dorm rooms and private rooms are available. The dorm rooms have toilet and shower en suite. The room has air conditioning, as well as lockers, though not for every bed, and the same with power outlet. Some of the bunk beds are extremely squeaky, but the bed is good, though with a very flat pillow. The en suite bathroom of the dorm room is very spacious, with nice stone tile designs and all facilities like mirror, sink, toilet, hangers, and a good shower. The shower is good and hot, but be economical with hot water or someone else is likely to have a cold shower.

Common Spaces

The main common area is of course the atrium of the Riad building. This and all other rooms are cleaned daily. It is a good place to socialize or chill. The dinner that is hosted every night here is affordable, good, and a great time to socialize. The atrium can be turned into a small disco, but this is not done on a daily basis. As distinctive to a Riad-type building, there is also a nice roof terrace. As important to the common areas for socializing is the guest kitchen. This kitchen is adequate and spacious and has all the necessities to do a little cooking. Additionally, there is also a book exchange on the first floor.

Summary

This is a very nice and quite spacious hostel and has all the facilities you are likely to want (unfortunately, Wi-Fi is on and off). Especially nice is the dinner option.
