Ostello di Corniglia is a small hostel in the town of Corniglia in Cinque Terre, Italy.
The Location
Corniglia is a tiny town, so no matter where you are staying, you are always centrally located. As of our visit, Ostello di Corniglia is the only hostel in Cinque Terre. It is in the third of the five towns, so it's perfect to break up your trip around Cinque Terre. Corniglia may not be a scenic as Vernazza or Riomaggiore, but is definitely pleasant to end your day, enjoy the sunset, and have a drink or dinner in one of the cafes in the charming centre. The hostel is quite a hike up from the railway station, so if you are traveling with luggage, you may want to take the shuttle bus to the town’s centre; the bus will drop you off right next to the hostel.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Ostello di Corniglia has one male and one female dorm. Rooms are spacious and contain four bunk beds, hosting up to eight guests. There is a socket next to each bed and there is a big locker for each guest next to its assigned bed, in which they are asked to stow their backpack and other belongings.
Bathrooms are situated at the end of the corridor and are also separated for men and women. There are two showers and one toilet for each gender. The shower door shines through and you can recognize the body shape of the person showering, so there is not a lot of privacy.
If you are staying in this hostel for several days you should be aware that Ostello di Corniglia has a lockout from 10:30 a.m. until check-in time. This means that you must get out of the hostel and cannot use any of the hostel’s facilities in this time. It is neither possible to leave your bags after check-out time nor use the bathroom or a shower before you continue your journey, which may be uncomfortable if you want to go on a hike before returning to Tuscany or Genova at the end of the day.
Common Spaces
The common area is the area that is between the rooms. There are two long tables with a few seats; there is also a coffee machine and a water kettle, plus you can buy a beer or some non-alcoholic drinks and there is a microwave to warm up your food (there is no facility to prepare your own food). The common room lacks any kind of atmosphere, and looks more like a hospital’s waiting area than a fun hostel’s common room.
Summary
You should not stay at Ostello di Corniglia for its vibe, but it is a good place to stay one or two nights if your goal is to spend several days in Cinque Terre and all that matters to you is a quiet place to spend the night.
